A Child's Dream

Designing a children's retail store is one of the most fun and creative things I have ever been given the chance to be part of. It put me right back into my childhood (or at least like one that you imagine your own to be). With lots of animals and sweet candy colours and things that make you feel like you're in a fluffy dream.

There is a plethora of furniture, lighting, fabrics, wallpapers and accessories that would make any child's room gorgeous. But nowadays, there is more to designing a little girls room then picking out all things pink and white. While looking for fabrics to work into this children store, I found so many great fabrics (see a few examples on my colour board below). The stripe fabric from a well-known designer was a beautiful purple/pink/white/green stripe fabric. We used it in the shop to make awnings over the interior of the windows and would love to see it used as curtains or even as a headboard.

It felt like a fairy-tale walking into that shop once it was complete. We wanted not only the walls and space to be perfectly designed to give it the right feeling of a fun fairy land, but also all of the furniture and even the tables and the etagere (which was custom designed) that held all of the merchandise.

That is what good design is about. It's not only about the paint and the carpet, but the small details that makes it amazing design.
